The electronic structure and the correlation energy in NiS


Abstract

Photoemission and inverse Photoemission (BIS) data for NiS are reported. They give the electronic structure of NiS namely a p-band intersecting the Fermi energy and a bare Coulomb correlation energy of 7 eV. This shows that the simple Mott-Hubbard model has to be modified to take relaxation into account.
