Abstract
Different statistical exchange potentials are defined for electrons in different shells. Starting from these an average exchange potential may be gained. The exchange potential of theXα method is gained by a least square fit to this average exchange potential. Perturbation theory α values show an atomic number dependence similar to that found by Schwartz, calculating α values by adjustingXα energy values to that calculated by the Hartree-Fock method. Two new approximate self-consistent methods are proposed.
